During our nightly devotions we are following a One Year devotional book that has brought about some deep discussions. The kids always have great questions and somehow the daily readings seem to coincide with a current event in our life. It has a What About You section that asks questions about things that might be bothering the kids. This has lead us to talk about forgiveness, bullies, divorce, parents losing a job, a sick parent and other great topics that may not be easy to talk about. The kids really like it and Noah has lead the devotions many times. One of the best parts is when we pray. I love kid prayers! They are so innocent and pure. That childlike faith leads them to talk to God about anything. This past year we really focused on God being in control. No matter what is going on in life, God is still in control. We need to give God our worries, frustrations and fears.
Some of our favorite verses this year are:
- Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own" (Matthew 6:34).
- "Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus" (Philippians 4:6-7).
- "An anxious heart weighs a man down, but a kind word cheers him up" (Proverbs 12:25).
- "A cheerful heart is good medicine, but a crushed spirit dries up the bones" (Proverbs 17:22).
