I recently shared Eli's essay on volunteering and wanted to show you Noah's too. I always enjoy hearing their heart and a teenage heart can be just as sweet.
CITIZENSHIP ESSAY
Why is it important to volunteer in your community? I think the question should be: Why
don’t we volunteer enough? I know that we have a lot of people who do volunteer, but sadly
there isn’t enough. It’s almost like the world doesn’t care enough. I for one really want to
volunteer all lot, but most of the volunteering jobs have an age limit and I’m to young for most
of them. There was this one time when me, my step mom, my best friend, and my friend’s mom
were going to build a house. My step mom got sick that week so we didn’t get to do that. It was
sort of depressing when I found out she was sick, but I didn’t want her to get hurt.
Volunteering isn’t always building houses or cleaning. Volunteering can also be helping
your family out. For example my aunt has three little boys. I like to hang out with them so my
aunt doesn’t have to always check up on them. When I’m hanging out with my cousins my first
thought isn’t that I’m volunteering, it’s that this is going to be fun. This is what I’m talking about
when I say volunteering is fun. I’m not saying that after a long time it doesn’t get boring, but I
am saying that it makes me feel good when I see my aunt smile when she sees me playing with
my cousins.
Now if you don’t know already, volunteering makes you feel good. That’s what it’s
supposed to do. Some people ignore that feeling, and make volunteering a onetime thing. That’s
not what volunteering supposed to be. Volunteering is supposed to be a thing that you start, and
love and want to do for the rest of your life. Now we all know that volunteering doesn’t pay for
food or the bills. But it does pay for one thing. It pays your heart with joy. It pays the people you
helped. It pays their soul. But you can’t live off of volunteering, and that’s where a real job
comes in. That’s the cool thing about volunteering, you don’t need to do it every second of the
day or twenty four seven. You can volunteer any time it fits in. you can volunteer one day and
not volunteer for another week. No one would get mad, or upset that you didn’t show up that
day. They would be happy that you even showed up. That’s how desperate this world is to
volunteering. They don’t care when you come as long as your there. And that’s basically what
this essay is about. The point of this essay is to tell all of those who don’t volunteer, that they
need to volunteer. I’m not forcing you to, I’m just suggesting. There needs to be more
volunteering for Haiti. There needs to be more volunteering for the needy. If you think there isn’t
anything to volunteer in, you’re wrong. Believe it or not, but you are always volunteering. You
are always helping.
