The last weekend of summer...

The last weekend of summer just passed and I am glad to report that it was a perfect weekend. We had a nice little storm on Friday night that cooled down KC and that made Sat. and Sun. just beautiful. I worked at my new part time job, made some ok tips, shopped at the awesome farmers market and then came home. After a few errands/chores we took our neighbor girls to Aunt Tweety's pool for some fun. Scott has been in a lot of pain lately so he stayed home to nap while I took the 5 kids and 2 puppies to swim. We worked on some swimming lessons and played some diving games and all 5 kids were worn out by the time we left....especially the two, four legged kids that we brought. Lady Bug jumped in the pool every 2-3 minutes but has learned how to get out using the ladder so we don't really have to worry about her much...and it surely makes it much easier and is sooo funny to watch!

On Sunday, we went to a park for a picnic and the weather was so beautiful. We had hamburgers, grilled corn, strawberries and chips...a classic summer picnic for sure. The food was soo delicious! The kids played fetch with Lady Bug and Aslan enjoyed tearing apart a bone.

At one point, I emptied out the ice chest and Lady Bug decided to take a cement bath...it was hilarious! She flattened her belly out, with all 4 legs sticking out so she could cool off and then she just rolled around and around in it.

Here is our end of summer family photo...can you tell I had just run to my spot? Lady Bug was watching me and that made Aslan watch her...and I have no idea what my arm is doing...but at least we got our group shot...minus Autumn of course. I'll have to update you on that later. What a good looking bunch!

After the picnic we decided to take the dogs to a local dog park. We tried this once before when we first got Lady but the grass wasn't mowed and with an increase in the parks deer population...we decided to skip the tick haven. This year, the park was clear so we met about 40 other dogs. At the end of the clearing is a dog beach and we weren't sure if Aslan would join in the fun because he doesn't voluntarily get in the pool like Lady...but we were pleasantly surprised when after a few minutes he ran in the water and started swimming. The dogs had a blast and the kids did too. The boys decided to swim with them along with about 10 other owners.

One of the funniest things was when Aslan would swim out to Eli and then Eli would grab onto his tail and Aslan would swim him to shore. He is such a great protector! Lady Bug was obsessed with fetching and she would take the ball to anyone on the shore. The ball would get thrown into the water and she would run on top of the water for a few seconds and then swim the rest of the way. She was in heaven! It was a great way to end our summer!
